How to turn this tea towel into a Tote Bag / Pillow Case:

What you'll need:

  • 100% cotton white fabric or similar to the tea towel in the same size (if you're doing a tote, get a little extra for the handles)
  • Stick on velcro (if making a pillow case)
  1. Turn the design over so it's not face up and fold back to where you want the design to sit on the tote/pillow (make sure you leave a little extra) and iron down the folds.
  2. Mark 1 inch from the fold you've made, mark and cut along the line.
  3. Cut the same size from the fabric.
  4. Lay down the plain fabric and put the tea towel on top with the design face down and lay the folds flat (so you can see the creases). You want to be making the tote/pillow case inside out so all of the seams are on the inside.
  5. Pin along the creases (except for the top of the tote). If you're making a pillow case lay down along the velcro on the bottom (don't stick yet) and pin a few inches in on either side (cut the velcro if you need to to fit). Remove the velcro and sew along the pins around each side (except the top for a tote, and along where you've pinned the bottom on the pillow case, you should have a gap for the velcro left over)
  6. If doing a tote, cut from the extra fabric the straps (as long and wide as you prefer), and sew them on. Make sure the straps are straight!
  7. Currently, the tote/pillow case should be inside out, so turn it out so you can see the design.
  8. YOUR TOTE IS DONE! Take it for a stroll, go see Love, Simon with it!
  9. If doing a pillow case, take the velcro, and where the gap is, stick it down on the folded bit on the inside. You want to make sure that when the velcro is secure, you can't see it but also make sure that the folded gap is straight and both sides of the velcro will stick together evenly.
  10. Fill your pillow case with a pillow insert or with stuffing and you're DONE! Take your pillow with you to see Love, Simon and cuddle up to it.
